People like Marianne McKinney.

Don’t let the sign outside her office fool you. She’s not the ‘world’s okayest employee.’

She’s an operational MVP. Scratch that — she’s an MVE: Most. Valuable. Everything.

That’s because for the past 14 years, she’s been serving up next-level support and ultimate team player vibes at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) for a number of programs and departments.

“Selfishly, helping people makes me happy,” beams McKinney.

“Admins are often the first line of contact with the public, patients and their families. I always try to do what I can to help where and when it’s needed. Most people who come through our doors are stressed and anxious, so if I can do something to brighten their day, that brings me happiness and I get immense satisfaction and joy from that.”

McKinney has been a scheduler, secretary, an administrative as well as executive assistant.

The titles may be different, but one thing that hasn’t changed is her enthusiastic, can-do approach.

“I’ve been mentored by some amazing leaders over the years who led with kindness, empathy and compassion, and have inspired me to do the same. I also try to bring laughter into the day. I think it’s essential to have fun, while getting the job done.”

She’s now spreading smiles and working her behind-the-scenes magic with our Ambulatory Care program as a portfolio coordinator.

“I love this position! My job is to support, organize, schedule and plan, but more importantly, I’m proud to be part of a team working together to make a difference for the communities we serve. Everyone I work with is incredibly supportive and dedicated to making Ambulatory Care a success, which helps prevent unnecessary hospital admissions or visits to the Emergency Department.”
