At Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) we care for our patients, families and each other through everyday actions, significant moments and exciting breakthroughs.

KHSC is Southeastern Ontario’s largest acute-care academic hospital. Consisting of our Hotel Dieu Hospital site, Kingston General Hospital site and the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario, as well as two research institutes, we care for more than 650,000 patients and families from across our region.

Partnering with patients and families is how we’re making steady progress towards our aim of Transforming Care, Together. Patients' journeys through KHSC can be complex. By partnering with you and your family, we’ll work as a team to make sure you have the best possible experience every step of the way. That’s why we put you at the centre of everything we do.

As a patient or family member, you will notice a few things that make KHSC different from other health care organizations. Our patient- and family-centred practices ensure that everyone who works, learns or volunteers at KHSC provides the same high standard of care, in partnership with you and your family.

Standards of Care

Identification Badge

Everyone who works, learns and volunteers at KHSC will wear an ID badge at chest level. These badges will give you people's names and positions, so you always know with whom you are speaking.

Whiteboards

Whiteboards have been placed in all in-patients rooms. These boards will make it easy for you, your family and the rest of your care team to communicate with one another. You should see a whiteboard near your bed and each section should be updated on a regular basis.

Hourly Rounding

We will perform hourly rounds during your in-patient stay to ensure that you are seen by a staff member at a minimum every hour. We will check on your comfort and safety. Let a member of your care team know if you need help with pain management, going to the washroom or anything else you may need.
