An X-ray is a common imaging test that has been used for decades to help doctors view the inside of the body. An X-ray uses of a low dose of radiation to look at muscles and bones. Some areas of soft tissue can also be seen using an X-ray.
X-Rays are available 24 hours a day for inpatients at KGH. Outpatients can come in for an x-ray between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday at the KGH Site.
At the HDH Site, you can get an outpatient x-ray between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday to Friday and 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekends. If you are an outpatient with a requisition from an doctor outside KHSC, you do not need to book an appointment and your wait time may fluctuate depending the number of other patients arriving at the same time.
X-rays exams are typically used on the following areas of the body:
- Chest
- Upper limb (hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, and upper arm)
- Lower limb (foot, ankle, lower leg, knee, thigh)
- Shoulder or collar bone
- Hip and pelvis
- Spine (neck region, upper back, lower back)
- Head
- Soft tissue neck
- Breastbone
- Gastrointestinal and urological systems
