Effective immediately masking is required for everyone when present on all inpatient units, in the Emergency Department (ED), the Urgent Care Centre (UCC), and the Children’s Outpatient Centre (COPC).
Bone Mineral Densitometry
Bone Mineral Densitometry or “Bone Density” imaging measures how much calcium and other types of minerals are in your bones. This procedure will help your doctor detect osteoporosis and predict your risk of breaking a bone.
Bone density can be measured with a variety of methods and techniques, however what normally occurs is a low-density x-ray is taken and then a computer analysis is done. This information along with regular bone density exams will help your doctor assess your skeletal status, diagnose osteoporosis and monitor your care.
Normally bone density exams can be done on your lower back, thigh, fingers, wrist, forearm, heel or lower leg. For more information on how bone density affects your health, and for information on the “bone density scan” that your doctor has ordered, you can visit Osteoporosis Canada.
