Vedat Verter
Vedat Verter is a Professor and Stephen J.R. Smith Chair of Management Analytics at Queen’s University, specializes on the application of operations research and data analytics for assisting policy makers in the public sector. His primary areas of research are healthcare management and socially responsible supply chains. In the area of healthcare, he focuses on preventive, primary, emergency, acute and chronic care processes, as well as their interaction. He has collaborated extensively with hospitals in Southern Ontario and Quebec, and this work resulted in over 100 refereed publications that have been cited by other researchers over 8,700 times.
Professor Verter was Editor-in-Chief of Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, an international journal focusing on public sector decision making for ten years starting 2011. Currently, he is a Senior Editor for the Healthcare Management Department in Production and Operations Management (POM) journal. He was President of INFORMS Health Applications Society and served as a POM Society Board Member and Founding President of POMS College of Healthcare Management. He is deeply invested in training scholars of the future, having supervised a multitude of Ph.D. students and post-doctoral fellows, who pursued successful careers in academia, public sector at large, and private sector.
As the recipient of 2025 Canadian Operations Research Society Award of Merit, Professor Verter is a recognized thought leader in operations research and applied analytics for tackling pressing societal challenges in the public sector. His contributions advance scholarly knowledge while significantly improving healthcare delivery, humanitarian operations, environmental stewardship, and community well-being. His work consistently bridges rigorous analytics with direct social impact, embodying the highest ideals of public-facing scholarship, while his institution-building efforts have elevated Canada’s global standing in health systems analytics.
