Dr. Margaret Shepherd
Dr. Margaret B.K. Shepherd is Dean of the Williams School of Business at Bishop's University and an executive leader with expertise in governance, strategy, organizational transformation, and leadership in complex organizations. Throughout her career, she has worked with boards, executive teams, and public institutions to strengthen governance, improve organizational performance, and lead strategic change.
As Vice Chair of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre Board of Directors and Chair of the Patient Care and Quality Committee, Dr. Shepherd brings experience in board governance, quality oversight, enterprise risk, strategic planning, and organizational culture. Her approach emphasizes evidence-informed decision making, accountability, continuous improvement, and collaborative leadership in support of high-performing organizations.
Prior to joining Bishop's University, Dr. Shepherd held several senior academic leadership positions at the Royal Military College of Canada and the Canadian Forces College, where she led strategic initiatives in graduate education, institutional governance, and organizational renewal. She continues to contribute to leadership development through teaching and executive education focused on strategic leadership, negotiation, governance, and leading change.
Dr. Shepherd also serves on the Board of Directors of the Business Schools Association of Canada and is a Fellow of the Centre for International and Defence Policy at Queen's University. She serves on the editorial boards of the Canadian Military Journal and the International Perspectives on Military Education journal. Her healthcare governance experience also includes service with Hotel Dieu Hospital and the KHSC Partnership Council.
