Intensive Transitional Treatment Program

The Intensive Transitional Treatment Program (ITTP) is an outpatient mental health program at Kingston Health Sciences Centre's (KHSC) Hotel Dieu Hospital (HDH) site. It is a four or six week voluntary, group-based program that may offer an alternative to hospitalization. The program’s focus is to support people in their recovery, and help them develop coping skills and take responsibility for their mental health and well-being. Individual support is also provided during the program. ITTP operates with a multi-disciplinary health team.

Accessing the ITTP program

ITTP is a program for individuals 18 years or older, who live in the Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox & Addington areas. Psychiatrists from KHSC's Kingston General Hospital site's Emergency Department or its inpatient units on Burr 4 and from the HDH site's Urgent Care Centre can make referrals to this program. The program is best suited for individuals who can participate in a daily group-based program.

What to Expect in the ITTP Day Program

ITTP has a variety of group sessions that focus on different topics. These include: Healthy Living, Stress Management, Communication and Relationships, Peer Support, Dealing with Stigma. A Nurse from the team will meet with people who are referred and discuss the options available.

Group sessions allow people to learn new skills and hear from others who may have similar experiences dealing with mental health concerns. Participants have the opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings with others if they are more comfortable.
