We know that eating healthy, nutritious meals is an important part of your journey back to good health. Each day, an average of 1200 meals are served to patients at Kingston Health Sciences Centre, and recent third party surveys show that overall patient satisfaction with our food is consistently in the mid 90 per cent range.

All patient meals are planned by an experienced chef and a team of registered dietitians, and each meal includes protein (a meat or meat alternative), starchy carbohydrates (potato, rice or pasta) and two servings of vegetables. If you are an in-patient at our Kingston General Hospital site, several hours before each meal, you will receive a restaurant-style menu of up to 20 different entree choices. You simply select what you are interested in eating, and it will be delivered to you at your next meal. It is also possible to substitute items according to your personal preferences or dietary requirements.

We use the Steamplicity system developed by Compass, which cooks fresh food to perfection, ensuring taste and vitality, and delivering high quality, fresh and nutritious meals. It also ensures that when your food arrives in your room, it is hot and ready to be enjoyed. Compass also works with local and regional suppliers to provide and promote local seasonal products and menu choices. Locally grown produce currently represents about 21 per cent of Compass’ total produce purchases. They are always looking to increase this percentage and include more locally grown food on our menu.
