Dr. Pallavi Nadkarni, MD, MMedSc, MRCPsych, Attending Psychiatrist
Dr. Nadkarni completed her initial medical training and post graduation in Psychiatry from India. She moved to the UK for further training in adult psychiatry with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK, where she was awarded an MRCPsych. She also completed a Masters degree in Medical Sciences in Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Leeds. While pursuing her last year in liaison psychiatry there, she chose eating disorders as her area of special interest and worked in the Yorkshire Centre for Eating Disorders in Leeds. She joined Queen’s University as an Assistant Professor in Psychiatry in November 2011 and our Eating Disorder Team in January 2012. She conducts weekly clinics to perform holistic assessments, diagnose other co-morbidities and manage pharmacotherapy if needed. Consultation Liaison Psychiatry and Emergency Psychiatry are her other service areas. She has staff privileges at Kingston Health Sciences Centre - Hotel Dieu Hospital site, Kingston General Hospital (KGH) site and Providence Care Hospital.
Dr. James Hillen, MD, FRCPC, Attending Psychiatrist
Kathleen Dempsey, Nurse Practitioner
Kathleen completed her undergraduate degree in Nursing at the University of New Brunswick (2009) and her Master of Science in Nursing and the Nurse Practitioner Program at Queen’s University (2014). She worked in the area of maternal/child health the majority of her years as an RN. Prior to joining our clinic, Kathleen worked as a Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency Department at the Lennox & Addington County General Hospital in Napanee, Ontario. She will be providing comprehensive medical assessments and health promotion and illness prevention programs with the goal of restoring, maintaining, and advancing the health of our clients.
Sandra Leduc, RD, Registered Dietitian
Sandra holds a BASc in Applied Human Nutrition from the University of Guelph. She has been the Registered Dietitian with the Outpatient Adult Eating Disorder Program at HDH since 2001. As the Dietitian, Sandra conducts nutrition assessments, provides time-limited individual therapy and leads weekly nutrition groups. She is a member of the Dietitians of Canada Addiction, Mental Health and Eating Disorder Network.
Dr. Brad MacNeil, C. Psych., Staff Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Mac Neil completed his BSc. Joint Honors Psychology and Biology at St. Francis Xavier University and his PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of New Brunswick. He is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who provides time-limited individual, as well as family-based and couples therapy and group therapy (e.g., CBT, ACT, CRT), and he coordinates the program’s Program Evaluation. Prior to joining the team he was an Assistant Clinical Professor with the Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders, School of Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Psychologist with the Adolescent Medicine and Pediatric Eating Disorders Program at McMaster Children’s Hospital. He is also with Adult Outpatient Psychiatry and is an Adjunct Clinical Supervisor with the Psychology Department and Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Department of Psychiatry at Queen’s University. Research interests include group therapy outcomes, body image, and gender differences in eating disorders.
Cathy O’Brien, M.S.W., RSW, Registered Social Worker
Cathy holds an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science degree (Major in Family and Social Relations) and a Master of Social Work degree (Direct Intervention). She brings almost two decades of experience in mental health and eating disorders treatment to the Adult Outpatient Eating Disorders Program at HDH. She facilitates treatment groups (Core, Psychoeducation, CBT, Family and Friends) and works with individuals and families connected to the program. Cathy’s interests include relationships, family dynamics and the influence of interpersonal factors that impact eating disorders and the recovery process. Cathy strives to assist her clients in optimizing health, support and functioning in their lives.
Kerry Oulton, OT Reg. (Ont.), Staff Occupational Therapist
Kerry completed her BSc. Honors in Biology and Psychology at Mount Allison University and her MSc. Occupational Therapy at Queen’s University. Kerry is a registered Occupational Therapist with the Outpatient Adult Eating Disorders Program at HDH. Her clinical role is primarily group treatment (e.g., Core Group, Psychoeducation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) although she also offers some time-limited individual therapy. Kerry also works with the inpatient acute mental health program at KGH and is an Adjunct academic staff member in the School of Rehabilitation Therapy at Queen’s University.
Tricia Barrett, Program Secretary
Our program secretary handles all patient appointment bookings for assessments and treatment. She is also the person who will greet and check you in on your assessment days with the clinic.
